Roto Rat™ Software

SOF-801
Roto Rat™ Software Version 2

OS Compatibility/Computer Requirements: Windows 98/2000 or XP, 800 mHz computer with one PCI slot

This Windows based software package provides user setup, screen display, and automated collection of rotational activity. Data elements include full revolutions clockwise (CW) and counterclockwise (CCW), user set partial counts CW and CCW, maximum movement CW and CCW (64 counts/rev), and direction changes. Partial counts may be set for 2, 4, 8, 16, or 32 counts per revolution representing 180, 90, 45, 22.5, and 11.25 degrees of rotation respectively. A special retrace feature permits the user to set the direction change criterion from one to eight with each number representing 5.625 degrees of movement (8 = 45 degrees). Until a direction change is recognized, the “zero” reference point for partial and full rotations remains fixed. Once a direction change is recognized, the “zero” reference point becomes the point at which the direction change began.

* The Roto Rat package allows the researcher to measure ipsilateral and contralateral rotations following unilateral ablation or microinjection.

  • Encodes rotational activity with 5.625º resolution.
  • Run up to 24 test stations.
  • Display all 24 stations simultaneously.
  • User-defined time bins in seconds.
  • User-defined session time in minutes.
  • Summary data saved in an ASCII and common separated values file.

New Features

  • Roto Rat™ has been upgraded to run with Windows 98/2000/XP.
  • Can now display the data from all 24 boxes simultaneously.
  • The Windows version allows the user to run up to 24 different experiments at one time.
  • Data files are now saved in the comma separated values (.CSV) format as well as the standard text file format. This allows for easy importation into most spreadsheet programs.
