2007 Short Courses in Neuroscience Summer Workshop Series Concludes Successfully

Photos from the 2007 Short Courses in Neuroscience Summer Workshop series.
Courses included: K-Limbic with David Fuller, Fear-Conditioning with Dr. Stephen
Anagnostaras, An Introduction to Self-Administration and An Introduction to MED-PC® with Dr. Steve Dworkin, and Startle Reflex Response in Rats and Mice with Drs. Eddie Meloni, Ramona Rodriguez and Bill Falls. |
The summer of 2006 marked the inauguration of our Short Courses in Neuroscience Workshop series. We expanded on last year's offerings, going from 4 workshops during the first summer to 6 courses this year. Once again, we were met with enthusiastic attendees who came to our Saint Albans, Vermont Science and Research Facility to gain hands on practical experience in various areas of behavioral research. As in the past, our courses that were geared towards the beginning users of our MED PC® behavioral research control software were very popular.
We plan to continue or expand our offerings for next year. In the mean time, we will be hosting a workshop, “An Introduction to Behavioral Research Protocol Programming:
Getting Started with MED PC®”, at the annual Society for Neuroscience convention in San Diego this fall. Keep your eyes out for email announcements that detail registration instructions as the SFN conference approaches.
Video Freeze System for automated analysis of freezing response in rats and mice - Share your Video Freeze Protocol files on our Researcher's Round Table
Our Video Freeze system for automated analysis of freezing responses in rats and mice has seen major advances in the last year. For example, our system features state-of-the-art digital video cameras capable of recording high-quality video in the absence of visible light. Using near-infrared illumination makes it possible to achieve dramatic contextual discrimination in complex fear conditioning protocols. Our Video Freeze software makes the development of fear conditioning and testing protocols very straight forward. A time-line display makes visualization of experimental parameters a breeze. We have heard from several laboratories that it might be desirable to have a repository where users can share their complex, or even simple, Video Freeze protocol files (*.pro) and their associated analysis templates (*.cmp). We have just added a section to our Researcher’s Round Table Discussion Forum to do just that.
Register as a member of our Reseacher's Round Table and start sharing your Video Freeze .pro and .cmp files.
Dr. Herrera to Deliver Talk at Upcoming AALAS Convention
Med Associates V.P. of Research and Development and President of Catamount R&D, Inc, Dr. Gerry Herrera, will present a talk at the upcoming annual meeting of the American Association for Laboratory Animal Science (AALAS) in Charlotte, NC. Dr. Herrera's talk will focus on a new product coming out from Med Associates. This new product, which has been in development for the past couple of years, is a running wheel that is designed to have a low profile so that it will fit into standard mouse ventilated rack home cages. The running wheel transmits data wirelessly to a host computer, and running wheel activity (revolutions or km) can be tracked in increments as fine as 30 sec. This talk, titled "Novel Wireless In-Cage Running Wheels Used to Record Mouse Wheel Running Activity in Ventilated Rack Home Cages" will take place on October 17, 2007 from 8:00 AM to 8:15 AM in room 211B of the Charlotte Convention Center, and will be part of the Husbandry/Management II Platform on the national meeting agenda. If you'll be attending AALAS this year, don't miss this talk.
