Student Trainer Interface

SG-595

SG-595
Student Trainer

The SG-595 student trainer is designed to be used with any Med Associates' operant chamber. Connect the SG-595 student trainer to the operant chamber using the instructions listed below. This device allows the user to manually operate outputs such as pellet feeders, grain hoppers, stimulus lights, and retractable response levers. The student trainer was developed as a low-cost alternative to the MED-PC interface, yet it still provides high school students and undergraduates the experience of shaping a research subject. Students can gain a cursory understanding of the fundamentals of animal learning and behavior using the student trainer.

Manual Control and Power Supply for SG-215D3 Connection Panel

Connections:
The control box operates on 115VAC, 60 Hz power. Connect the 25-pin cable to the SG-215D3 connector on the chamber to supply 28 volts and I/O signals. Once this connection is made, power up the unit and the box is functional. Refer to the cable-wiring chart to determine where the devices in the chamber are connected.

Operation:
This unit can control a total of 3 input responses and 5 output responses. The AND/OR program mode switch is used in connection with the first input and the first output. In the OR mode (switch up), the student can deliver a reward with the push button, or the animal can acquire a reward on its own by pressing a lever connected to the first input. In the AND mode (switch down), both the push button and the first input must be activated in order to give the animal a reward.

Inputs 2 and 3 can be used for other responses given by the animal. There are indicator LED's to signal which one of the three inputs are being used.

The trainer can also control up to four other output devises such as lights and other accessories. The standard output switches can either be toggled up to leave the output on continuously, or toggle the switch down for momentary signal.
