Med Associates Fall 2014 JoVE Sponsorship Competition Winner Announced

Congratulations to the Aoki Lab from New York University on being selected as the winner of our Fall 2014 Med Associates Inc. JoVE Article Sponsorship Competition.

Tara Chowdhury, a post-doc in the lab of Chiye Aoki, submitted the winning abstract titled:

“Using the activity-based anorexia rodent model to study the neurobiological basis of anorexia nervosa”.

This abstract describes a project where the research team used the Med Associates ENV-044 Low Profile Wireless Running Wheels to examine an animal model of Activity Based Anorexia.

In their model, mice are given free access to running wheels while they are food deprived (2 hour restricted food access per day).  During the periods of restricted feeding, mice demonstrated marked hyperactivity.  With this model, Dr. Aoki’s research team hopes to study neuroplasticity and the neurobiological changes that take place in particular brain regions following food-restriction induced hyperactivity.
