Operant Behavior Test Packages for Mouse

Med Associates has offered more components for testing mice earlier than any other manufacturer. The following packages are just a few of the more common configurations that we have assembled over the years for mouse operant testing. Feel free to custom design your own chamber configuration using any of these designs as your guide to meet virtually any research requirement. Additional items to consider include an audio generator, infusion pump, scrambled foot aversive stimulation, lickometer, movement detector, and constant current square wave stimulator. Each operant package for the mouse is a complete single test station including the SmartCtrl™ interface. This does not include the interface support and software package that must be ordered separately.

Deluxe Behavioral Test Package with Modular Chamber for Mouse

This deluxe package features an expanded PVC sound attenuating cubicle, modular test chamber with two retractable levers and both pellet and liquid reinforcement. The 14 mg pellet dispenser (ENV-203-14) is available by request in place of the 20 mg pellet dispenser (ENV-203-20). The FR Training Procedure provided with the interface package uses convenient named variables to select the correct lever, the reward dispenser, reward time and time out, the FR value and session time. It can also automatically create a time stamp file for the Soft Cumulative Record Utility. Order the MED-SYST-8 interface and software package to run up to eight test chambers and MED-SYST-16 to run up to sixteen test chambers.

Basic Behavioral Test Package with Modular Chamber for Mouse

This package features ultra-sensitive, fixed levers with photobeam sensors, a MDF sound attenuating cubicle, a SmartCtrl™ module, and a pellet dispenser. The 14 mg pellet dispenser (ENV-203-14A) is available by request in place of the 20 mg pellet dispenser (ENV-203-20). Indicate pellet dispenser size preference at time of order. Order the MED-SYST-8 interface and software package to run up to eight test chambers and MED-SYST-16 to run up to sixteen test chambers.

Basic Drug Self Admininstration Test Package for Mouse

This package is ideally suited to drug addiction studies using cocaine or similar compounds. It features a standard MDF sound attenuating cubicle with modular test chamber, house light, two standard response levers, two stimulus lights, and a 20 mg pellet dispenser. The liquid dipper has been removed in favor of the pellet dispenser. The 14 mg pellet dispenser (ENV-203-14) is available by request in place of the 20 mg pellet dispenser (ENV-203-20). Indicate pellet dispenser size preference at time of order. The package also includes a single speed infusion pump, swivel arm, swivel and tether from Instech Laboratories. One feature not included, but one that can be easily added, is grid floor aversive stimulation to stress the animal. Basic Mouse Drug Self Administration Test Package—MDF SAC,
Classic Modular Test Chamber, Fixed Levers, Standard Pump

This basic package consists of our mouse classic modular test chamber with modified top allowing the drug delivery tether to exit the chamber. This size was first proposed by Galen Wenger and Peter Dews. It has the advantage over our other chamber sizes of a smaller area that provides less distractions for the mouse, thus improving shaping and performance. The operant conditioning chamber is fitted with a house light, two stimulus lights, two ultra sensitive mouse fixed response levers, and our pellet dispenser (20 mg). The 14 mg pellet dispenser (ENV-203-14P) is an available option when a smaller dispenser is needed. In addition, the package includes our standard syringe pump with 3.33 RPM motor, mouse drug delivery arm that supports the 25 gauge mouse swivel, a polysulfone button and spring that serves as the leash/tether assembly, and 25 gauge drug delivery line. A deep MDF sound attenuating cubicle keeps the animal in the operant conditioning chamber isolated from external disturbances.
